Day 3 Doolin to Dingle

We awoke to yet another rainy morning. Another wonderful breakfast starts our day. I forgot to mention yesterday that we have had our first scones ever and they are wonderful hot out of the oven. Knowing that we really wanted to see the castle up close, the B&B owner offers to give us a tour in the rain. Me and Tim and Stacy get our umbrellas and follow him up the hill. The guard horse was waiting to greet us. It is really muddy but Tim and I follow him around the field stepping on rocks where possibly. Stacy, thinking that we are just getting another angle for pictures decides to head back to the van. He was able to make it to the castle and we followed him for an inside tour which was wonderful. It was built in 1390 and he tells us it is one of the few from that period still mostly intact.

Since we hadn't made it to the Cliffs of Moher visitor center by land we decide to head there as we are leaving Doolin. It is pouring rain most of the way and questionable whether visibility will allow us to see anything. Just as we arrive the rain stops and the sun tries to peak through the clouds.

We then begin our 3 hour drive to our next destination taking the ferry across the Shannon river and stopping my the Kerry Museum in Tralee on the way which is not near as interesting as Rick Steves says it is. As we reach the beginning of the Dingle Peninsula, the sun comes out for the first time the whole trip. It is a glorious afternoon and the scenery is great as we approach Dingle.

After we get check in to Pax Guesthouse, another B&B, we head to town for dinner at Murphy's Pub around 6 pm. John of Pax GH tells us since the sun is shinning we MUST do the Slea Head drive tonight because you never know when it is going to rain and the views should be great. He is a wonderful host just as the reviews on trip advisor say he is.

The pictures tell you how the drive was, I will only add that seeing the double rainbow was a highlight of today. With it so cloudy so far, you can't really tell what time the sun sets, but at 10:30 tonight while out on the porch smoking the views across the bay are still clear. Tim ask John for some regular coffee packs for our room and he is back in a few minutes with a coffee press full of fresh coffee and a handful of packs. While we were out he had turned down our beds and left us a plate by the bed with a couple pieces of cake.

  1. The pictures are wonderful that you took in the evening. I'm really enjoying taking this trip with you; only I'm doing it the cheap way.
Thanks for letting us share your enjoyment and keeping us up to date.
